What this award means to us – and how SOLIS became what it is.

Our SOLIS solar lamp has received the Red Dot Award 2026 in the Lighting Design category. An international jury of experts, thousands of entries, one decision. We're proud. And we'd like to tell you the story behind it.

How SOLIS came to be

LUUK Studio isn't a corporation. We're two people from Munich who one day asked ourselves: why isn't there a lamp that truly fits? One that works outdoors and indoors, needs no cable, looks beautiful – and doesn't pretend that design is merely decoration?

SOLIS was the answer. A solar lamp with delicate iron struts that cast mesmerising shadows when lit. With a removable solar module, three dimming levels and a touch switch. Cordless. Weatherproof. For the garden, the terrace, the living room – anywhere.

What the Red Dot Award means
The Red Dot Award is one of the most respected design awards in the world. Every year, an independent international jury evaluates thousands of entries based on criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, form and quality. An award in the Lighting Design category is not a marketing prize. It means the object lives up to its promise.

For us, it's more than a seal. It confirms the choices we made from the very beginning: in favour of reduction, material quality and a light that genuinely makes you feel something.

Why the shadow play changes everything
What sets SOLIS apart from other lamps isn't a feature on a spec sheet. It's what happens when it glows: the delicate iron struts cast patterns onto walls, floors and tabletops. Subtle, yet impossible to overlook.

It sounds like a side effect. It's actually the whole point. Good light transforms a space, not through its brightness, but through its quality. And SOLIS brings both.
